The Three Pillars

pillars three

The three pillars of the Ogdoadic Tradition are:
- Theurgy (High Magick)
- Philosophy (Meditation & Contemplation)
- Theology (Ascent toward Beauty)

These three pillars are still the basis used by the Initiates of the Aurum Solis on their Path.

1st Pillar: Theurgy (High Magick)

Theurgy is the fundamental part of Aurum Solis composed of progressive rituals. As Iamblichus wrote, "the aim of the Theurgic art is the "purification, liberation and salvation of the soul" through the divine acts of sacred rites. These ineffable Theurgic rites were praised by Proclus as "a power higher than all human wisdom, embracing the blessings of prophecy and the purifying powers of initiation." Consequently this ascent to the divine will increase your psychic power. However this is a consequence and not a goal in itself.

2nd Pillar: Philosophy (Meditation & Contemplation)

Philosophy is the “Love of Wisdom.” This is a practical discipline aimed at teaching one to live well. Philosophy is not just a theoretical science. Philosophy is both a therapy and a way to reach a healthy state of mind and body.
Classical Philosophy is taught on the basis of spiritual exercises including meditation, contemplation, affirmations, visualization, journal writing, and examination of spiritual progress and problems.
Moral values are learned and practiced in the daily life. They constitute an essential requirement to the ascent toward the divine.
The regular reading of philosophers of the Hermetic Tradition progressively reveals the real essence of Philosophy to the student, allowing him to join those who "love Wisdom" and who are able to learn and understand the Mysteries of the world.

3rd Pillar: Theology (Ascent toward Beauty)

Theology is the “Study of God(s).” This is also known as the “Erotic Ascent,” in which the power of Love and Desire (Erôs), directed toward Beauty, raises the soul toward the Beauty of The One. This way is well described in Plato’s book called “Symposium.”
The first step of this path is Epicurism. Every spiritual and Theurgic work is based on the premise of “being here and now” without renouncing our bodies. Consequently, our Tradition recognizes that the quest of Beauty, Harmony and the ability to enjoy balanced pleasures in our daily life, are the foundations of true inner stability.
The study of the nature and life of Gods and Goddesses is another aspect of theology.
Practice of devotion (composed of prayers, hymns, meditation, contemplation, offerings, religious rituals and celebrations, etc.) is the main axis of this essential part of the Ogdoadic Tradition.
